Tip 9: Be humble. There are many things we don’t know.
Welcome,
To help us conceptualize how an animal can understand our language, receive our message, and then respond in a way that we can understand, Mary suggested that we imagine a transmitter out in space. It’s like the message goes out in our language to the animal and it is converted by the transmitter into what the animal will understand. And then, the animal’s response is sent back to the transmitter and it is put into a form that we will understand.
Since we do not know/understand the workings of the higher intelligence that makes telepathic communication possible, this is simply a way for us to try to visualize/conceptualize how this communication takes place. There is so much that we don’t know about how it all does actually work. What we do know is that communication can take place. Deep understanding between species can arise.
The magnificence of the universe, the ultimate intelligence, has ways of functioning that are beyond our scope of understanding. If we can be respectful and patient, we can continue to learn and gain in understanding. For right now, we just need a hook to hang our hat on until greater awareness develops.

Stay open and be present to what arises. Tip 8: Stay fully present without thoughts or judgments.
Welcome,
It is important to be aware that our minds are thinking thoughts all the time. Naturally, it is our mind’s job to think thoughts. What we need to do is be aware of this fact and identify with the conscious observer of these thoughts. Rather than listening to these thoughts and taking them for real, we just need to learn to watch them. The practice of meditation really helps the truth of this to become very apparent. Also, keep in mind that just because we think a thought doesn’t mean that it is the truth or real. It’s just the mind doing its thing—coming up with thoughts.
On any given day and at any given time, our mind is doing its work—thinking thoughts. As we learn to get into a deep state of relaxation, we gradually shift from the thinking, rational left brain into the more altered state of the fluid, flowing right brain. It is in this deeper state where our creative ideas can spring up from within. Rather than coming to conclusions by a logical, step by step process, wisdom and awareness can arise spontaneously. We can tap into a source of knowing that is within each of us.
As we move into telepathic communication with animals, it is really important to let our mental thoughts, our preconceived notions, go. Become and remain still and really listen to what is communicated. Be fully present to what comes. Again I say, remain still and really listen to what is communicated without distractions, preconceived notions, or judgments. This is crucial. Be open to the images, words, thoughts, or feelings that may arise. We need to continue our positive expectations, trust in our intuitive abilities, and have openness to what comes and in whatever form it comes.

Setting the stage.
Tip 7: Pick a quiet time and space with no interruptions.
Welcome,
As I said previously, listening to Penelope’s tape was perfect for me. It set the stage for my profound and revealing communication with Regal. In a way, as I sank into the relaxed state by simply listening to the Penelope’s voice as she relayed her experiences and understandings of animal spirituality, I became present, feeling the joy, of what she was saying. With the power of relaxation taking hold, the channels of my right brain and telepathic communication opened wide in my experience.
Without my fully realizing the possibilities of what could occur, I had simply gotten into a deep state of relaxation, my muscle tension dissipated, and I was enjoying and was uplifted by Penelope’s vast experience with her own animals. Getting into this deep state of relaxation and happiness with what I was hearing was like opening a door to understanding and possibility. At the end of the tape, Penelope started to lead into a guided imagery conversation. Having done this type of activity before, I simply turned off the tape and engaged Regal on my own. I mentally said, “Regal, this is Linda. Will you come and talk with me?” I immediately felt a strong weight on my chest and knew she was there. This is the start of what I wrote after our communication:
“After greeting Regal and finding her immediate willingness to talk with me,
I felt her spirit enter my heart. I felt tremendous physical energy/weight in my heart area. I felt my heart expand to take in the whole room, and tears filled my eyes. I knew she was there!” p.162, Regal: An Intimate View of One Magnificent Feline
As you can see, I just couldn’t help myself. I had to share the first bit of this wonderful experience. My conversation with Regal was beyond anything that I had ever experienced and was uplifting and wonderful. Of course, the whole experience is contained in the Epilogue.
